The Sourwood
The Sourwood tree (Oxydendrum Arboreum) is also called the Lily of the Valley tree or the Appalachian Lily tree, growing 40 to 60 feet tall with a diameter of one foot. The leaves are oblong, pointed at the apex and have a sour taste. Flowers are white bell-shaped and hang in clusters 5-6 inches long at the end of the branches. Sourwood is most abundant in the mountains of North Georgia and Western North Carolina. The Sourwood tree blooms in late June through the month of July, during a period when few other flowers are blooming.
By the end of June all spring honey is removed from our beehives. New honey supers are added to ensure the Sourwood Honey produced is in its purist form. Our bees are located in Habersham and Rabun counties which are rich in sourwood trees to ensure we produce only the best Sourwood Honey in the USA!
Sourwood Honey is extra-light to light amber color and extremely aromatic with a distinctive rich honey flavor. In local markets it commands a premium price. When it comes to quality and taste, no other honey can match Sourwood Honey.
The Wildflower
Beginning the first of April until the end of June, our honeybees work many different varieties of flowers. This is the main flowering season for the forest plants and trees. Our honeybees will forage 2-3 miles from their hive to collect a mixture of nectars from tulip poplar, blackberry, basswood, black locust, maple, wild blueberries, and hundreds of other flowers. It is the numerous wildflowers which give our SpringMtn Honey its unique and special flavor. This honey is light amber in color, has a wonderful floral aroma and is great as a table honey or in your favorite recipe.
Tupelo
Back by popular demand, Tupelo Honey is very mild, smooth and light amber in color with a complex floral taste. The Tupelo bloom lasts only 2-3 weeks and requires a skillful beekeeper to collect the honey. We’re delighted to partner with a U.S. beekeeper in the Savannah River Basin to provide this unique product. As with all our products, our Tupelo honey is 100% pure and raw and is never heated or filtered through high pressure filtration systems.
